The Psychic
A Supernatural drama
Sebastion Faulkner has been seeing and hearing things all his life. And he's barely able to control it.
Now in his early 30s and hardly able to go out for his fear of large spaces, he's spent his life taking money from desperate, grieving people in return for his psychic abilities and has become jaded by the gullible people walking through his door. One of those people; Pauline, happens to work in television and mentions him to her colleague Catherine who has been trying to come up with a new idea for a TV show; and Sebastion Faulkner is exactly what shes after. He is The Psychic.
Seb however, turns the offer down. He knows he has a gift and its the only thing he can do well, but his fear of change and success stops him from saying yes, which doesnt bode well for his relationship with his girlfriend Jennifer. Her parents are well to doer's and look down on Seb when they finally get to meet him for dinner one evening. Jennifer's father makes it clear he thinks Sebastion is a fake and grovels off the system instead of making a decent living, leaving Seb to feel worthless. When Jennifer realizes her father may be right, she gets resentful of Seb's inadequacies. Fearing he will lose her, he does the show, not realizing most of the people involved are skeptical of his abilities. Catherine is no exception; she sees Seb as a way to entertain the masses; nothing more and records a pilot to pitch. But she doesnt count on Richard; a more seasoned Producer wanting a piece of the action.
Seeing that the show lacks something, he secretly pitches his own ideas and Catherine is relegated to assisting him. After all her hard work coaching Seb to actually be entertaining, she resigns from the project in anger. Seb senses something else gnawing away at Catherine; the recent death of her father. He tries to relieve her pain by showing her father is still around. The experience changes something in her and she signs back on, much to Richard's annoyance.
The first show airs and Seb is an instant hit. Ratings are good; Seb is a star. But as he records the last few shows; his abilities become less and less controllable. The stresses of trying to prove himself (unsuccessfully) for Richard's Mentalist Challenges, make him irritable.
Finally, the night before his final live show, Seb says he's lost his gift. Jennifer thinks he's just trying to back out like he always does. In a fit of anger she shows her skepticism of him; leaving Seb hurt and deflated. Realizing he must do the final show, he goes on stage for a huge live broadcast to the masses. Catherine is there to see her idea out, but doesnt realize Richard has organized something else to happen, the secret idea he pitched. As Seb struggles with the loss of his gift in front of everyone, a man phones up, encouraging Seb with his answers; thinking he's made a psychic connection. But backstage Richard's scheme is coming into play and Catherine senses something awful is about to happen to Seb in front of the nation, resulting in his humiliation.
